As one of Regina’s oldest businesses, Speers Funeral and Cremation Services has had the unique privilege of serving several generations of Regina and area families. This personal connection with the Regina community began on April 1, 1907 when Mr. George Speers purchased the undertaking business from the general merchants, “Marshall & Boyd”, and founded Speers Funeral Chapel.
Originally, Speers Funeral Chapel was located on South Railway Street, but over the following two decades moved to the 1700 block of Hamilton Street, followed by 1867 Rose Street. In 1962, Speers moved once again to the present location at 2136 College Avenue.
In addition to being a funeral director, Mr. Speers was also an innovator. During the course of his nearly five decades in business, Mr. Speers operated the first Marconi audio equipped ambulance service in Canada and initiated the first air ambulance service in Saskatchewan in 1936.
