I’m Bonnie Hoffmann. I own and operate Pine Box Funerals, an independent Sherwood Park, Alberta business. My husband and I have lived rurally and raised our kids, and we’re delighted to have grandchildren.
I care about clarifying the processes around death for people, creating meaningful celebrations of life, and providing practical help to navigate loss and grief.
I earned my funeral directors’ license in 2005. Before starting Pine Box Funerals, I gained practical experience and insight working at commercial funeral homes. I’m not an embalmer and I hold some pretty strong opinions about the procedure. Celebrant training has allowed me to serve families in other capacities. I’m a licensed, regulated funeral business manager.
Emerging trends in end of life and after life care are of great interest to me. Community death care and the growing death doula movement are examples of occurring change. Cemeteries and the social movement of green or natural burial have led me to be involved with the Green Burial Society of Canada.
