The charter of incorporation was obtained on November 23, 1974. The cooperative was founded on December 12 of the same year. At the founding general meeting, more than 200 people already participate. The Funeral Cooperative is the result of several more or less concerted efforts by several stakeholders and organizations in the Sherbrooke community: ACEF Estrie, CLSC SOC, Université de Sherbrooke, Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste, housing cooperatives, etc. The founding president is Gérard Gosselin, then popular education agent for the CSRE.

At the time, the Coopérative funéraire de l’Estrie wanted to make its members and the general population aware of the often very high prices for funeral services in the region. The wish was also to simplify funeral customs and promote the values of dignity and respect for people. To achieve this, the cooperative proposed to create a business owned by its members in order to offer quality funeral goods and services at affordable prices for all budgets.

In 1977, the Coopérative funéraire de l’Estrie bought the building at 530, rue Prospect. This is where the head office will be located until January 2007.
