N. Purcelle Brown was a fixture of Chiles Funeral Home. Purcelle was beloved by everyone he encountered. He was a man of dignity and respect! Not only was Purcelle a U.S. Veteran, he was a family man, Funeral Director, and a pillar of the Church Hill Community. He was a pioneer in the Funeral Service Industry. He served families with advice, consolation, donations when needed as well as a strong shoulder to lean on during difficult times. To us here at Chiles, he was “Our Sweetheart”, a kind knowledgeable man with a great heart and a caring spirit. Purcelle was our “In-House Historian”, he could vividly recall events from the early years of Chiles with great detail. Until a few weeks before his passing Purcelle remained dedicated to funeral service and was always readily available to help out with families, funeral services, fellow co-workers, as well as his Moore Street Baptist Church family in any way he could.
